Recipe Remix: KimmayTube Leave-In Conditioner

If you're a natural and you freaquent youtube, chances are you very well know who KimmayTube is and are familiar with her leave-in conditioner recipe.  Since she posted the video, I've been loving her leave-in.  It's pH balanced and helps the hair retain moisture while lending softness and great definiton for twist outs and braid outs alike.  I've never used her original recipe but I use a modified version of it using all the ingredients I like.

The catalyst in it all though that's a must for this recipe to be successful in the Aloe Vera Juice.  Aloe vera juice helps to bring the pH balance of the mixed down to 4.5 (healthy range for hair 4.5 - 5.5).  And it's a fact that a pH of 4.5 helps to smooth down the cuticles of the hair making them lie flat lending sheen and a healthy look to the hair and retained moisture.

Here's my modified version of the recipe:

1ounce- Giovanni Direct Leave-in
2 tablespoons - (Whole leaf version) Aloe Vera Juice with a pH of 4.5
2 teaspoons - Sweet Almond Oil
2 teaspoons - Argan Oil
Mix Well

I also add in Jojoba Oil when I have it in my stash and at times, I swap out Giovanni Direct Leave-in and use Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque (and I prefer this one) as the base.

Click here to view the video KimmayTube's original recipe.  If you haven't tried it yet and you're having problems with retaining moisture, this will be a definite go-to.

  7. Hi Michelle!

I actually switched back to using the Deep Treatment Masque full-time (i suppose I should do an update) as the base after this post. It was better for my hair during the weather change (raining and all that). Both work fine for me but the Shea Moisture Deep Treament Masque is a little heavier so it offered a little more moisture for my hair. You should try it with the DTM first and see how you like it.

  9. Hi I have a question. Can you blow dry and flat iron my hair using the Kimmaytube leave in conditioner?

    Thanks

  10. Hi Reesie,

I wouldn't recommend using this as part of a leav-in before blow drying and flat ironing. It would probably be great in aiding your hair to be more shiny because this will help the cuticles to lay down and hence reflect light really well. However, this would be too much product applied to the hair weighing it down. When going into a blow drying session you want to make sure that you apply as little product before the process as possible.

Before blow drying all you would need is a great moisturizing deep conditioner and a lightweight heat protectant.

    Hope this helps.

  11. I see you're familiar with Camden Grey. I love them and order all of my oils, butters and essential oils from them. Also, have you been told that you bear a strong resembelance to LisaRay?

  12. Hi...yes I LOVE CG! I buy most of my stuff from them as they beat many of the pricesin my area even with S&H and many others online.

yes to LisaRaye...LOL I get told that quite often. But I take it as a compliment--I think she's lovely!

    Thank you so much!

  13. I know I am a little behind in time since I JUST used kimmaytube leave In. I noticed they are used in twist&twist outs, never wash and go. Is it not recommended/formulated for styles that do not have to be set? Also can a dryer be used with the leave in? Can't find actual Kimmaytube video. Thanks in advance.

  14. I don't do wash n go's on my hair so I would not be able to tell you that. However, sitting under the dryer after applying the leave-in is fine. I've done it plenty of times.

KT took the video down because she plans on making her own products and thought that using another companies products would be a conflict of interest.

    Hope this helps

  15. You had the same idea as about using Argan Oil in the mixture. Tell me, how do you feel the Argan oil change the results of the mixture?? Especially when it's mixed with jojoba oil...
